'Symbolically Circumscribed'

A charming article in the Economist, exploring the methods of rendering monuments impotent and resisting the temptations to destroy or hide them from view, wary of creating voids with meaning instead, which often perpetuates a myth with a ghostly significance and whispered threat instead.

....."They are far removed from sites of political power—demonstrating the lack of esteem with which their ideas are now held—and they become increasingly mossy and dirty over time. The forest itself was once home to the Lithuanian resistance; now that the statues are contained within its boundaries, the Soviet system is symbolically circumscribed"

That said ........Beware the un-narrated, lurking in the forest ..........by creating a park to contrast and visit these monuments, will they receive more attention and romanticism than they ever would standing in some shadowy urban context
