Revive the Spirit of Mosul is a UNESCO initiative for the reconstruction of the Old City of Mosul. This will be UNESCO’s main contribution to the United Nations’ Response and Resilience programme, designed to help Iraq’s government fast-track the social dimensions of reconstruction.
They provide up to £100,000 for projects lasting up to 18 months
Applications are particularly welcome for projects that contribute to sustainable development and reconciliation between communities through the documentation, safeguarding and enhancement of cultural heritage.
“Mosul is a tale of two cities,” said Lise Grande, the humanitarian coordinator in Iraq and head of the United Nations Development Program. “In east Mosul, more than 95 percent of people are home. On the west side, it’s a completely different picture. Yet people are rolling up their sleeves and determined to get their lives back.”
