The Peace-building Potential of Re-using Spaces

Journalist, Allan Taylor, wrote for the online magazine, 'The Atlantic' an article, Syria's Students: Going to School in a War Zone

This article highlights the resilient nature of communities within a war-torn environment. It also suggests the peace-building potential of re-using spaces as a response to post war recovery. By reusing spaces and taking ownership of the built environment despite its post-conflict degradation helps put conflict and displaced people at the centre of their own recovery and reconstruction. It is essential that contemporary ways are found to amplify this potential and place building re-use at the center of any NGO's housing, land and property (HLP) practice.
